Rhapsody - Music at the Library September 14 ~ The American Songbook
A lively and entertaining revue of songs from American Musical Theatre including the classic songs of Irving Berlin, George Gershwin and Rodgers & Hart, a tribute to lyricist Dorothy Fields, and contemporary hits from Phantom of the Opera. The Digital TV Transition- Tuesday, September 23, 7:00 p.m. ~ Are you prepared for the February 17, 2009, change to an all-digital broadcast signal? If you watch free over-the-air TV with a broadcast antenna and don’t have a digital TV, you will need a digital-to-analog converter box for your analog television. Spotlight on Women’s Health - Stand up to Osteoporosis - Tuesday, September 30, 7 p.m.
The University of Michigan Health System will come to the Library this fall for this important program on osteoporosis. Presenters Lori Trudeau, M.S., R.D., an outpatient registered dietician and Priya Mehta, P.T., a clinical specialist in physical therapy will cover the importance of nutrition, posture awareness, proper body mechanics for daily activities and exercise instruction. Storytimes
Lap Sit Storytime for children 6 to 24 months - Lap sit storytime is a 15 minute song and rhyme time for babies on their care-giver laps. Storytimes will be held on Monday, September 8 at 10:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. and will be repeated on Saturday, September 13 at 10:00 a.m. Registration for all sessions will begin on Tueday, September 2. Limit of 16 children per session. Wait list is available. Registered care-giver and baby only, please!
Baby Play! for children
6 to 24 months - Baby Play! is a 20 minute story and play
time for babies and their caregivers. Baby Play! will be held on Monday, September 22 at 10:00 am and 11:00 am and then repeated on Saturday, September 27 at 10 a.m. No registration is
necessary.
Preschool / Family Evening storytime for children 2 to 5 years old- These programs allow siblings and other family members to attend as long as one member is between the ages of 2 and 5. Storytimes start at 7:00 pm.
Tuesdays, September 2 -23 and Wednesdays, September 3-24. Registration begins Tuesday , August 26th.
Toddler/Parent storytime for children 2 to 3 1/2 years old- Two programs will be offered. The 10 a.m. program is for one adult with each toddler. Exceptions are made for twins, otherwise please make other arrangements for siblings. The 11 a.m. program allows other family members to attend as long as one member is between the ages of 2 and 3 1/2. These programs run on Tuesdays, September 2 - 23.
Registration begins on Tuesday, August 26.
Preschool storytime for children 3 1/2 to 5 years old- Two storytimes will be offered; one at 10 a.m. and the other at 1 p.m. These programs run on Wednesdays, September 3 -24. Children must be prepared to attend without an adult; caretakers must remain in the library.
Registration begins on Wednesday, August 27th.
Calling all homeschoolers! Join us September 23rd from 1-3 pm for an afternoon of fun and information. Learn more about the library catalog, databases, and curriculum enriching materials. Meet families, both new and experienced, in our local homeschooling community. Registration begins September 16th at the Youth Services desk or by calling 734-453-0750 #5.

for all grade levels and all course levels. Subjects include Math,

LIBRARY GROUPS MEETING DURING
September
$$$ AND SENSE –– Wednesday, September 3, 1pm. Registration required for the September meeting.
Join with others who are interested in learning and sharing information
on personal finance and investing at this discussion group at the
Library. In its second year, the group provides a forum to study
and share personal investment information, learn investment terminology,
review different investment tools, and study individual stocks,
mutual funds, annuities, etc. Each month, members follow and report
on a mock portfolio they set up on the Internet. This is not a
stock club, no monies are involved; members plan, moderate, and
participate in each meeting. New members are welcome at any meeting.
Meetings are usually held on the first Wednesday of the month in
a Library meeting room.
LOW VISION SUPPORT GROUP – Thursday, September
4, 1 pm
This meeting will take place on the first Thursday of every month.
Participants will share advice on coping skills and adaptive technologies
in a supportive atmosphere. A qualified facilitator will lead the
group. Library staff members will be on hand to provide assistance
with Library equipment, services and offerings. For more information

The Plymouth District Library Board will hold its regularly scheduled
monthly meeting in the Library. This meeting is open to the public.

COMPUTER NEWS
Plymouth residency is required for all attendees of the Library's

COMPUTER BASICS –Thursday, September 4, 10:00 am - 11:30
am ~ This course is designed to teach Microsoft Windows
and basic mousing skills to Plymouth residents. This class provides
one session of mousing practice and hands-on work with the keyboard
and Windows. Participants are urged to return during the Drop-in
tutoring sessions for additional practice.
MAKE A BUDGET WITH MS EXCEL - Tuesday, September 9, 10:00 am - 11:30 am ~ Find out how to make a household or personal budget while learning Microsoft Excel. You must be comfortable with keyboarding and Microsoft Windows basics before signing up for this class.
INTRO TO MS WORD –Wednesday, September 10, 7:00 pm -8:30
pm ~ Students will learn how to open, close, modify,
save and print a basic Word document. The class covers basic features
of this software program only. Students must be comfortable keyboarding
and using a mouse prior to taking this class.
BASIC INTERNET SEARCHING –Monday, September 15, 1:00 -
2:30 pm ~ This class for Plymouth residents will help
computer users learn the basics of using the Internet. This will
include an explanation of terms, use of a browser and utilizing
search engines on the World Wide Web. Participants should be comfortable
with the Microsoft Windows basics and using a mouse. Training is
based on the hardware and software available in the Library.
INTRODUCTION TO POWERPOINT - Tuesday, September 16, 10:00 am - 11:30 am ~ Learn the basics of how to do a computer slide presentation using Microsoft Powerpoint. Topics include selecting a template, adding text and graphics, and then putting the entire finished product together into a slideshow. Participants must be comfortable using MS Windows and have good keyboarding skills.
INTERMEDIATE MS WORD - Wednesday, September 17, 7:00 pm
- 8:30 pm ~ In
this class students will learn how to adjust a layout using Page
Setup, use auto correct, insert dates and symbols, work with two
Word documents at the same time, and more.
MS EXCEL LEVEL II - Tuesday, September 23, 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm ~ For students who have completed the "Make a Budget with Excel Class. Excel II will cover the use of functions, Inserting comments, create a chart, learn to insert rows and columns, formatting the spreadsheet and printing the spreadsheet.
ADVANCED MS WORD - Wednesday, September 24, 7:00 pm - 8:30pm ~ Students
will learn how to insert bullets and numbering, alphabetize, use
tables, insert symbols and more.
BASIC EMAIL - Monday, September 29, 1:00 pm - 2:20 pm ~ Learn how to create a free e-mail account using Yahoo in this one-session class. You will also learn how to compose, send and delete email messages on that account.
DROP IN COMPUTER TRAINING –Saturdays September 13 and 27, 10:00am - 12:30 pm ~ High school students will teach Plymouth
residents to use a mouse, Windows 2000, the Library catalog, the
Internet and how to set up a free e-mail account using Hotmail
or Yahoo! We do offer basic training in MS Word. However, we do
not offer training in Windows Vista or other software programs.
